Mrs. Marisa Velasquez is our new principal who has been here at Simpson Academy for almost two years. This website can be used by students, community members and donors in order to find more information about Simpson Academy. Mrs. Velasquez comes to us from Roosevelt High School, where she was an assistant principal. It was a positive experience in a diverse school of about 1600 students, where over fifty languages were spoken! Mrs. Velasquez also spent a short time as an interim Principal at Social Justice High School in the Pilsen neighborhood, then re-turned to Roosevelt. She has an extensive background with an undergraduate degree from DePaul University as well as graduate degree from Loyola. Mrs. Velasquez has many positive ideas and brings a wealth of knowledge to our school. Having attended an all-girls Catholic high school (Queen of Peace), she enjoys working in an all-girls school. She understands what we’re going through. She be-came pregnant at 19 while in college and knows how important it is for young women to have a solid support system in order to reach our goals. She believes it’s vitally important to build positive relationships with teachers and students, and to use all the tools we have in order to help students get ready for college. If we support and help one another, we can be successful. She wants us all to be comfortable with technology, be able to graduate from Simpson Academy and have every young woman who walks out of Simpson to be ready for her future. We need to change the perception of what our school is and does. Mrs. Velasquez and her husband have three boys, and believes that family is important along with respect. We’re looking forward to the year ahead with Mrs. Velasquez, and we thank you for joining our Simpson Family.
